Castro steps down as leader
I saw three consecutive stories on Fidel and Cuba on our left-leaning, biased mothercorp. Not one mentioned that Cuba is a one party dictatorship, that Castro was a dictator held in power by his brother's control of the army, that in the early days of the "revolution" they shot, imprisoned or exiled their opponents. Now they only imprison them - including a 75 year old grandfather calling for democracy. Cuba today has as little political rights and freedoms as Battista's right wing Cuba did. Fidel is no Robin Hood, they are wealthy kleptocrats with huge bank accounts in Spain and Switzerland. No one can dare criticize the Cuban state without fear of prison, loss of housing or ration cards. Canadians who vacation there blithely, not realizing that their resort lines the pockets of and props up a dictatorial regime are complicit in the Cuban people being delayed freedom.
Nets down Bucks behind Harris
Wizards' forward Butler has labral tear in hip, return uncertain: It raised a few eyebrows when Caron Butler was listed as day-to-day for nearly a month. Now the Washington Wizards have discovered the reason. A re-examination of the All-Star forward's hip revealed a small labral tear of the left joint. Butler will be re-examined next week, and the injury might require surgery. Butler has missed the past 10 games with what was originally diagnosed as a strained hip flexor. He did not accompany the Wizards on the road trip that ends tonight at Chicago. .
Obama extends streak with wins in Hawaii and Wisconsin
I'm sure most of you making these comments have never met a black person or a Muslim. It's no wonder people around the world hate us as Americans, as represented by Bush and his "War of Terror". I can understand the fear in many of you who never thought you'd live to see a woman or black man actually in a position to win the presidency . Your time is running out and you don't know what to do. Deal with it!! The tide is shifting. Obama '08 and please stop using his middle name like we buy the association with Saddam. We're smarter than that. .
Merkel to discuss election concerns with Russia
Wilhelm said Merkel wanted to get an impression from her visit of how Russian politics would be run in the future amid uncertainty over how Medvedev and Putin will share out responsibilities. Merkel is due to hold talks with Putin, hold a joint news conference with him, and then meet separately with Medvedev before returning to Berlin on Saturday evening. "The usual range of bilateral and international themes - the situation in the Middle East, in Kosovo and in Iran -- will play an important role in both sets of talks," Wilhelm said. Despite setbacks, friends refuse to lose sight of girl's dreams
Kajal came here from an Indian orphanage nine months ago amid high hopes and great fanfare. A well-known eye surgeon would restore her sight. Local news outlets featured her story. And adoptive parents in Franklin quickly stepped forward to offer a new home to the little girl found abandoned in an Indian train station three years ago, blinded with acid by her stepmother. .
Failing the Lohan Test
They probably tell the bill's opponents that they are faking when they say they're faking their opposition. At some point the search for authenticity in state-of-the-art politicians becomes fruitless. A fake "no" vote counts as much as a heartfelt "no" vote. ... 12:01 P.M. Paranoid's Corner II: I'm now so obsessed with the Senate "p.o.s." immigration bill that I think all the news the Bush administration is making--from the President's unusual press conference to his statements on Iran and Iraq to the release of that Osama-Zawahiri message--isn't really designed to influence the public's views on Iran and Iraq or Al Qaeda. It isn't designed to directly influence the public on anything. It's designed to take up media space over Memorial Day so there's less room for angry opposition to the President's immigration bill! It's so obvious....
