This book comes to me in an unusual way. I received an email from the publisher and editor asking if I'd be willing to review BIND 9 DNS Administration Reference Book. Ok, that's not unusual. In fact, it happens to me all the time. What is unusual is that I'd never heard of Reed Media Services before. One reason is that they seem to be a smaller publishing house that was originally started to "print newsletter publishing, online publishing (including related software design), and providing related internet hosting services". The other reason is that they've only produced two books thus far (The OpenBSD PF Packet Filter Book is the other one).

Kyle spills beans on 'affair'
RADIO'S number one shock jock, Kyle Sandilands wasn't upset when asked whether he was cheating on fiancee, Tamara Jaber with a dental assistant. He was just outraged that the rumour of an alleged affair wasn't with a Hollywood A-lister. "I mean, couldn't it have been with someone more glamorous?'' he lamented. By all accounts, it was a tumultuous week for the multi-media personality with his old foe Mark Holden diced and sliced from Australian Idol (who knew whose hand was holding the knife?) and threatening a tell all tome on his difficult last year on the show.

LITH man stabbed 8 times
A 21-year-old man from Lake in the Hills remained in fair condition Monday at Sherman Hospital after being stabbed eight times in the chest early Sunday morning at an Algonquin home that advertises weekly parties on the Internet.Jonathan R. Rainbolt, 22, of 10210 Wilmette Ave., Algonquin, is being held on $500,000 bond on a charge of attempted murder for allegedly stabbing Adrian E. Blach in Algonquin, police said. Police said they had been called to the home for other problems related to the parties.Algonquin police were called to the party, at 438 W. Algonquin Road, about 3:49 a.m. Sunday for a fight involving a knife. After they arrived, Algonquin police arrested four juveniles for underage drinking. Rainbolt was arrested later Sunday afternoon in the 1000 block of Wilmette Avenue in Algonquin, police said.Rainbolt is being held at McHenry County Jail.

Words fly between La Russa and Slaten
But a skirmish between Cards manager Tony La Russa and talk-show host Kevin Slaten is simmering. Slaten wanted La Russa to be a guest recently on his afternoon drive-time program at KFNS (590 AM, 100.7 FM) but La Russa turned him down — as he has in the past.
Slaten has been harsh on the air about La Russa, lately about him overseeing many players who have been tied to using performance-enhancing substances — including players who have been signed by the club after the release this winter of the Mitchell Report, which investigated use of such substances in baseball. .

FCC hearing weighs net neutrality
Network operators are making choices right now that will determine how Americans communicate, now and in the future," said FCC Commissioner Michael J. I am saying that choices like these, when you add them all together, are going to determine what kind of Internet we have in the future."
